More Information about Wireless Cameras

Are you interested in having wireless security cameras installed on your property. Contact a security professional when considering a wireless security camera system.

Positive Benefits: Cut down on installation costs, easier to move the camera & have camera at further distances.

There are some factors that may interfere with the wireless transmission of video. Yes the idea of cameras with no wires is a good idea in theory, but you have to keep in mind real world scenarios.

Negatives: You will still have a power cable that needs to connect to a power source. They call it a wireless camera because it transmits video wirelessly. With a wireless camera you don't have to connect the camera to the dvr with a rg-59 cable. Metal inside of your wall, multiple thick brick walls, 2.4 GHZ cordless telephones or cordless phones on the same frequency as the camera & wireless routers can block or interfere with the transmission of video between your wireless camera & your DVR.

The best way to see if a wireless camera will work for your application is to actually test it. We would conduct an on site test with a camera and a wireless access point. It can go through 3-4 walls easily, but it depends on each wall. For most standard homes or offices it should work.

There are a few different types of wireless setups for security cameras.

Wifi connection- This type of setup usually requires a wireless access point (WAP) and a wireless camera. You must use the camera that comes with the WAP. Don't try to hook up another type of wireless camera with this. Wifi allows for faster transfer speeds of data and stronger signal in a short range. You can also have multiple cameras with one wireless access point.

Point to Point- This is a camera that has a transmitter and a separate receiver that plugs into the female BNC end on the dvr. The camera transmits a straight signal to the dvr. Can go longer distances than a wifi camera.
